Cryptojacking (also known as malicious crypto-mining) is an emerging online threat that disguises itself on a computer and/or mobile device and uses the machine’s resources to “mine” forms of online tender known as cryptocurrencies. It’s a flourishing menace that can control web browsers, as well as compromise different types of devices, from desktops and laptops to smartphones and even network servers.
The end goal of this threat is profit by stealing resources from a computer and gaining cryptocurrencies. There are two main forms of cryptojacking: malware and drive-by. This is a relatively new online threat but is quickly growing in popularity among hackers due to how profitable it is.
